Previously, restoring a decayed or damaged tooth with a dental crown required temporary restorations and multiple appointments. The good news is that’s no longer the case thanks to CEREC® technology! Now, our team at Woodsprings Family Dentistry can complete the entire process in a single appointment. Contact our dedicated team to schedule an appointment today or read on to find out more.

CEREC® stands for chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics. In short, it is an in-office computer-assisted design and manufacture (CAD/CAM) system that makes it possible for our dentist and team to design, craft, and place custom restorations in a single appointment. That means no temporary restorations, no lengthy treatment process, and no taking multiple days off work to restore your healthy, happy smile!

CEREC® uses the same treatment necessary to design and place traditional crowns. However, rather than relying on a dental lab to craft a custom restoration, our team can use a chairside milling unit to produce a custom, all-ceramic restoration in a single appointment.
Usually, the entire process takes 2-3 hours. In that time, we will remove the damaged or decayed dental structure to prepare the tooth. Then, we use the CEREC® system to capture precise digital impressions, which are immediately transferred to the chairside milling unit. There, a single block of resin, ceramic, or zirconia is crafted to the specifications of the digital impressions. Once it is complete, we place the final restoration, effectively restoring the appearance, health, and strength of your tooth.

Traditional dental restorations using gold, porcelain bonded to metal, or ceramic required patients to visit our dental practice at least two times over the course of several weeks. During the first visit, patients’ teeth would be prepared to receive a dental crown, and then a temporary restoration would be placed. Once the custom solution was completed, patients would return to the office to exchange a temporary for their custom restoration. With same-day dental crowns in Jonesboro, that entire process is condensed into just one appointment. Since there isn’t a need for follow-up appointments, patients save a significant amount of time over the course of treatment. Plus, they don’t have to deal with the precautions that come with temporary restorations, like sticking to a soft foods diet.
